Hello Football Fans and Welcome to GAME DAY!! At long last the college football season is here and upon us….
I’m going to give you my best guesses and picks for tonight’s games and the weekend’s big games here each Friday, but since we get a jump start on the Weekend tonight, then we’ll start today….
Utah State at Utah-(Utah -20.5)-Gary Anderson returns home and Utah debuts a new QB. Lots of energy early from the Aggies, but not enough to overcome that Utah defense and the healthy dose of Matt Asiata. Utah 31 Utah State 7
Oregon at Boise State-(Boise -3.5)-This is one that Utah fans will keep an eye on since they see the Ducks in a couple of weeks. Lots of hype around both these teams coming in. Can the Ducks challenge in the PAC-10 and can Boise St. be this year’s BCS buster? Lots of points and wide open offense tonight, but the Broncos will be too tough on the “Blue Turf” (56-2), they win. BYU vs. Oklahoma-(OU -22.5)-Some 15,000 Cougar fans are traveling to the Metroplex for this one, many thinking of the signature win in 1991 against the Miami Hurricanes. I don’t think it happens this time around. OU is too good and athletic on both sides of the ball. But I do expect the Cougs to keep it respectable at “Jones Town”…OU 45 BYU 24
Georgia at Oklahoma State-(OSU -5.5)-If you like great offensive football then check out the Pokes this season. Maybe the best trio (QB, RB, WR) Zac Robinson, Kendall Hunter and Dez Bryant. They will be too much for the Dawgs who are breaking in a new QB and RB. OSU 38 Georgia 21
Nevada at Notre Dame-(Irish -15)-I’m telling you right now this could be the upset of weekend #1. Nevada can score points and Notre Dame can give them up in bunches. I know I know, but the Irish are at home and their offense is great, blah blah blah….I’m not drinking the Notre Dame Kool-Aid, yet….but still I’m not picking against them either…Fighting Charlies 38 The Corbin Louks’ 35
Alabama vs. Virginia Tech-(Bama -6.5)-This is the opposite of the Ga/OSU game, lots and lots of defense. Tech missing it’s top running back and eligibility questions about Bama’s top WR and RB. This game will be won by a kicker and special teams…Hokies 13 Arrogant Sabans 10
Miami at Florida State-(Noles -6.5)-This used to be the Game of the Year in college football, but hasn’t been that way for a decade. Big year for Bobby Bowden and the Noles, returning QB and playing at the Doak gives them the edge here. Free Shoes University 24 The Other U 17

I think that if Utah State is looking to make this a game, it will have to be a defensive battle. I doubt they move the ball too well against our D, leaving the only real question mark about how prepared Utah State’s defense will be. Can they pressure the new QB enough to keep him from delivering the ball to the corps of talented wide receivers we have? Can they stop Asiata? How talented/well conditioned will they be to do those things consistently for 60 minutes? For me, that is the only real question.

Utah 45 Utah State 10, Utes roll for the first 3 1/2 quarters and score 33 points (7 by the defense) to Utah State’s 3. Jordan Wynn comes in and doesn’t let up on the gas. USU scores in garbage time.
I’ll give the Aggies a little bit of credit with a somewhat more experienced quarterback this season.
